The City of Detroit Police and Fire Retiree Health Care Trust (the “Trust”) manages and provides health benefits to eligible City police and fire retirees as well as their beneficiaries.
The Trust was established in late 2014 as per the terms and conditions of the City of Detroit’s bankruptcy proceedings. In the Plan of Adjustment, the City agreed to the formation of voluntary employee beneficiary associations (VEBAs) to assume responsibility for providing health care benefits to certain eligible retirees, including police and fire retirees. On April 1, 2015, the Trust assumed full responsibility of the management and administration of health care benefits to all eligible City of Detroit police and fire retirees, as well as their beneficiaries.
